Wok & Roll Rally 2006

Life's an adventure someone once said...

Cruising up the M6 on Friday, in that 'orrible, misty, damp rain, I decided to go over Kirkstone Pass, to get to the Wok & Roll Rally at Watermillock, on the banks of Ullswater. Turn off the motorway and then the throttle on the Trike stuck wide open...hit the kill button...it's not connected! So de-clutch and pull into the side...engine screaming! Wonderful! And it's still chucking it down...

Turn off the motorway and then the throttle on the Trike stuck wide open...hit the kill button...it's not connected! So de-clutch and pull into the side...engine screaming!

Fortunately, this time I'm carrying tools. Take the air cleaner off and when I start the engine the piston rises half an inch. The throttle cable is fully off and there's a quarter of a turn free play...Totally baffled, so ring Dave, who's as baffled as I am. He then tells me the rally doesn't take place till the Saturday. Decide in the end, to motor gently back onto the motorway and get it to Dave's. No problems, but it grates the teeth when coming to a stop with the engine at 5,000 revs.

Finally reach Dave's, put it in the garage and have another look at what's going on. By now I'm dry and I've had two brews, so thinking more clearly. Now I come to the good bit...

I'd looked in the carb when I first stopped and could see that the throttle butterfly valve was slightly open, so this was why the carb was revving on its own. But why was it open? Even thought perhaps the valve had moved on the shaft, but it felt tight. Just on spec, unscrewed the idle screw two and a half full turns and low and behold problem sorted. Now can anyone explain how a screw with a locking spring on it, can tighten itself down two and a half full turns?

Friday evening Mitch came over, so we had a night in the pub.

Saturday, onto the Rally, in a small field, at the village hall...probably something like 100 people, with two bands, very reasonable food and a really good pint - Spitfire. All the Cumbrian D.D.'s turned up, so we partied with them.

Woken up early on the Sunday by a big bang, just after a bike had left. Everybody feared the worst, but it turned out to be a car and van, with no-one hurt.

Packed up fairly early and an uneventful journey home, apart from not getting into top gear until Windermere and having to use 2nd to get over the Kirkstone Pass...Such is the power at my command

Total contrast to the Rock & Blues, but just as enjoyable and recommended for next year.
